Landhuis ( translated as Manor) Jan Thiel is tucked away at the end of a small sidestreet off the Caracasbaaiweg on a part of the old plantation Damasco. In the 17th century the lagoon west of Caracas Bay was one of the major salt lakes of the island. By the end of the 17th century, Damasco plantation was founded and became one of the most important salt plantations on the island. The first known owner of the plantation was the Dutch captain Jan Thielen. Until today, the name is therefore plantation Damasco, aka Jan Thiel.The estate is approximately one and a half acres in size and is located near the bay of Jan Thiel, with fantastic views over the salt pans, where always large groups of flamingos are foraging and the special salt ponds are still visible. A private gate gives access to the salt pans for nice walks, cycling tours or horse riding. The beaches of Jan Thiel and Seaqurium Beach as well as the Spanish Water and Marina are located at five minutes by car of the estate.There are five separate buildings on the estate, with a total of 12 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. The buildings are situated all over the estate which makes it perfect for a combination of work and residential living, or partial lease. Of course it is very much possible to rent out the entire estate as a Boutique Hotel with a managing couple on site. It is also an excellent event venue for weddings, conferences and business meetings. There are beautiful gardens to wander around in, a spacious swimming pool, a tennis court, a bowling green and a pitch and putt area. The Mansion has a central place on the estate.Rita's house:Rita's house is a restored Curaçao cottage house with tiled roof. This cottage has a kitchen and a bedroom. On the private porch you can enjoy the beautiful view of the gardens and the sunset.Kunuku house:Kunuku (translated as rural); a typical restored Curaçao thatched cottage. This type of house is found widespread in rural areas of Curacao. The house has a kitchen and a bedroom. From the living room you step through the doors opening onto a terrace with a panoramic view and it is very well located on the wind.Tennis House:The cottage is located near the tennis court. It would be an ideal home for a managing couple, or a care-taker/live-in. It consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen.The entire estate, including the mansion has been completely restored between 1997 and 2001 under the watchful eye of Monuments Foundation of Curacao by the current owner.
